Irving Shipbuilding is searching for Labourers with Industrial Painting experience in Halifax, NS. Responsibilities Apply safe work practices to all work performed. Use and maintain tools and equipment required for performing various work activities. Assist in docking and undocking vessels. Setup for specified work on a vessel or job site Able to learn surface preparation, coating application and apply those skills. Perform fire watch and confined space watch duties. Able to work with minimal supervision. Assist skilled-trades workers within the shipyard performing general labour work. Compartment turnover readiness and cleaning. Able to safely and efficiently be able to use different types of power tools. Being a team player is a must. Qualifications Education Required: High School Diploma Years of Experience Required: <2 years. Industrial Painting/ Automotive Painting/ Construction Painting experience required. Coatings/ Blasting experience considered an asset. Ability to work with different types of materials or products such as general metal products, construction materials solvents or coatings including understanding or able to learn mixing industrial marine coatings and products. Problem solving skills required. Must be able to wear respiratory protection as required. Physical effort and work conditions: Able to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and climb. Must be capable of working at heights from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and in extreme confined spaces. Frequently handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to fifty (50lbs) pounds. Occasionally lift and carry items that weigh over fifty (50lbs) pounds. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in environmental conditions. You must be eligible to work in Canada to apply for this job. A pre-employment physical is required. A background check will be performed by the Employer. Support extended hours and overtime as business needs dictate. Able to operate power and hand tools (like measuring tape) Able to read a drawing or blueprint is skills considered and asset. Industrial sewing machine operation skills considered and asset. All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Candidates must have experience in industrial, automotive, or construction painting and be capable of performing physically demanding tasks in confined spaces or at heights. Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada and meet requirements for security clearance and the Controlled Goods Program.
