The Opportunity
Rocky View Schools invites applications for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/wk) Positive Behaviour Coach to work a 10-month school calendar schedule starting August 26, 2026.
The Positive Behaviour Coach provides one-to-one direct support and intervention to identified student(s) and provides ongoing modeling and coaching to classroom teachers and support staff. The Positive Behaviour Coach provides direction and expertise in designing and developing personalized learning programs for students with challenging social-emotional behaviors in a variety of educational settings across Rocky View Schools (RVS).
This position is located at the Education Center in Airdrie, Alberta.
The successful candidate must have access to reliable transportation as travel is required. Mileage reimbursement will be provided in accordance with established RVS procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provides one-on-one direct support and intervention to identified students
- Models intervention strategies for classroom teachers and support staff
- Based on information and data collected, develops strategies and functionally sound intervention plans to address targeted behaviours
- Assists in the development of the student’s IPP incorporating elements of the intervention plan, where appropriate, to maximize student success
- Conducts observations and functional behavioural assessment to determine target behaviours and establish baseline data
- Provides professional learning opportunities for school and division staff to deepen their knowledge, understanding, and expertise of Social and Emotional Behavioral difficulties
- Prepares necessary documentation (i.e. client related records, consultation notes, assessment reports, progress reports, etc.)
- Partners with educators, families, and community agencies to provide effective learning environments for students
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Science discipline with a psychology or education major
- Specialized training in supporting students in inclusive educational environments
- Minimum of three years’ successful experience working with persons with severe social-emotional, behavioural, and/or mental health difficulties
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally and in a timely manner
- Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients
- Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Participates in program development, improvement, effectiveness, and innovation of special education instructional methods
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
