Job Title: Maintenance Technician Specialist
Location: Calgary Reports To: Plant Manager Department: Maintenance / Operations
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician Specialist is responsible for leading all maintenance work at the site to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all production and warehouse equipment. This role oversees preventive maintenance, electrical and mechanical system, Capital Projects and special projects. The Supervisor also ensures strict adherence to quality standards, including Weights and Measures compliance, awareness of contamination prevention, and company-specific Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, schedule, and mentor maintenance work and operator training.
- Provide technical guidance and ensure adherence to maintenance best practices.
- Conduct & support ongoing training to grow and develop existing operators
Preventive Maintenance & Reliability
- Develop and manage a robust preventive maintenance (PM) program for Production and warehouse Equipment
- Ensure timely execution of PM tasks to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
- Analyze equipment history and failure trends to drive reliability improvements.
Electrical & Mechanical Systems
- Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems, including motors, panels, PLCs, and instrumentation, working with external contractors as needed.
- Ensure safe work practices are followed for electrical isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and arc flash protection
- Support mechanical maintenance of pumps, conveyors, HVAC, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems working with external contractors as needed.
EHS & Life-Critical Activities
- Support Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) on projects, risk assessments, MOCs as applies to equipment and operations while being compliant to both regulations and internal policies and standards
- Support Site with Expertise for risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
Process Safety Management (PSM)
- Support implementation and maintenance of PSM elements including mechanical integrity, management of change events (MOC), and process hazard analysis (PHA) as required.
- Ensure documentation and procedures, including MOIs are up to date and accessible.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations to maintain safe operating conditions.
Quality Compliance & Contamination Prevention
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with quality standards, including Weights and Measures regulations.
- Consider contamination prevention protocols during maintenance and equipment handling.
- Maintain documentation and support audits related to quality and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure all work aligns with internal company standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Capital Project Support
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and external contractors on capital projects including equipment installations, facility upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
- Provide technical input during project planning, design, and commissioning phases.
- Ensure maintenance readiness and integration of new assets into PM programs and documentation.
Special Projects & Continuous Improvement

Lead or support capital projects, equipment installations, and facility upgrades.

Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized work.
Qualifications:

Trade certification (e.g., Millwright, Electrician, Instrumentation) or technical diploma in a related field.

7+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial setting, with 3+ years in a supervisory role.

Strong knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and some automation.

Experience with maintenance planning, and spare parts management.

Familiarity with EHS regulations, PSM standards, and life-critical safety protocols.

Understanding of quality systems, Weights and Measures compliance, and contamination control.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Project management experience is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Industrial environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.
- May require shift work, on-call availability, and occasional overtime.
- Physical demands include standing, lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
