Role: Technical Coordinator Location: Nelson, BC Reports To: Technical Planning Manager Direct Reports: N/A Role Status: Full-time, Permanent FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Date of Last Review: June 2026 Role Overview The Technical Coordinator plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between design and fabrication, ensuring that project documentation, CAD modeling, and technical data are accurately managed and seamlessly transitioned into the production process. This role is responsible for supporting design teams with technical tasks, maintaining high standards for documentation, and assisting in the optimization of workflows across departments. The Technical Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Technical Manager, Digital Planning, and Fabrication teams to ensure that project specifications are met, and deadlines are adhered to. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Project Support & Design Integration Support the Digital Planning team by ensuring design models are accurately captured, applying tolerances, managing connections, and organizing attributes for fabrication Produce and maintain technical documentation, including lists, shop drawings, and design standards, ensuring alignment with internal procedures and best practices Contributes to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for design and fabrication integration Can provide scripting support under the supervision of a Computational Designer to enhance modeling and programming efficiencies, with a focus on automation and optimization Can provide programming support under the supervision of a CNC Programmer Can coordinate and manage supply-only contract activities across design, procurement, and fabrication stages to meet project milestones and customer expectations Fabrication Workflow Support As required, can assist with material allocation, preparation for CNC machining, and packaging to ensure a smooth transition from design to production Provide hands-on support in the fabrication process as required, helping ensure efficient workflows across all stages of production Cross-Department Collaboration & Coordination Collaborate with the Technical Manager and other departments (Digital Planning, CNC, Fabrication) to ensure seamless integration between design, fabrication, and CNC programming Facilitate effective communication between project teams to ensure design specifications, timelines, and technical requirements are clearly understood and executed Contribute to the continuous improvement of workflows, ensuring the alignment of design and fabrication processes with project objectives Training, Development & Knowledge Sharing Provide CAD training and support to Fabrication and Finishing staff, ensuring team proficiency in required tools and systems Promote a culture of continuous learning by sharing knowledge and encouraging the team to adopt new technologies and methodologies Contribute to the development and implementation of training programs that support team growth and skill development Core Competencies Innovation & Problem-Solving - applies creative thinking to solve work challenges by combining traditional methods with new approaches. Demonstrates reliability and proactive communication while seeking opportunities Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Attributes Post-secondary education in a relevant field, or equivalent experience Proven experience in a technical coordination role, preferably within CNC, manufacturing, or fabrication environments Strong understanding of CAD modeling, technical documentation, and fabrication processes Ability to work cross-functionally with various teams (design, CNC, fabrication) and ensure effective communication Proficiency in CAD software and technical drawing tools Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently Experience with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Rhino/Grasshopper, Python) for modeling or programming efficiencies, preferred Familiarity with CNC programming and related software (e.g., Lignocam, Mastercam), preferred Background in process improvement methodologies, with a focus on optimization and automation, preferred Schedule and Working Conditions Ability to work 7:30-5:15, Monday – Thursday, with a 15-minute paid coffee break and a 30-minute unpaid lunch each day, and every second Friday from 7:30-4:00, with a 15-minute paid coffee break and a 30-minute unpaid lunch each day Ability to work on-site at Spearhead headquarters Manual dexterity to operate machines and hand tools on a regular basis Ability to stand and move around the fabrication shop for work shifts Ability to work in a workshop with exposure to dust, chemicals, and noise using required PPE, as needed Ability to move and carry materials up to 30 lbs on an occasional basis Compensation Pay range is $75k-$85k commensurate with experience and qualifications Extended Health and Dental benefits Weekly Indemnity Insurance Group Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) Statement of Inclusion Spearhead is committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Spearhead manufacturing facility is located on the west arm of Kootenay Lake in the Southern Interior of British Columbia. The 40,000 sq.ft. facility houses full-service millwork and timberframe shops featuring CNC manufacturing and timber milling equipment along with design and administration offices.
Spearhead has the unique ability to supply a wide range of building components from structural timber and steel, to panelized wall and roof assemblies, millwork and finish materials. All projects are developed using BIM software to achieve fabrication-level digital models which interface directly with CNC machinery. This information is shared with project partners to review connections and coordinate site-built and prefabricated components.
Wherever possible, structural and architectural components are designed, engineered, and pre-manufactured parallel with site construction, allowing for just-in-time delivery and compressed construction schedules. Keeping the production process in a controlled environment at our facility greatly enhances quality, enables cost control and promotes manufacturing efficiency.
