The Opportunity
TruGreen Metal is growing across the Canadian prairies and with that comes opportunities for the right individuals to grow and advance within our company. Successful candidates may be expected to train for the position and start by driving Class 1 vehicles for three to six months. After the successful completion of this training period, candidates would transition into the Skidsteer Operator role.
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Skid Steer Operator. The full-time position will be based out of Calgary, Alberta. The Skid Steer Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of skid steer equipment to support mobile scrap metal collection, sorting, loading, and site cleanup activities. This role is hands-on and field-based, working at customer sites, industrial yards, farms, and construction locations. The operator plays a critical role in maintaining productivity, safety, and customer satisfaction during scrap removal operations.
How you’ll spend your time
- Operating Equipment: Actively operating a skid steer to load, move, and organize scrap metal at various job sites
- Site Support & Labour: Assisting with groundwork, sorting materials, positioning bins, supporting drivers, and communicating with customers
- Equipment Checks & Maintenance: Conducting pre-use inspections, basic maintenance, and reporting mechanical issues
- Travel & Coordination: Traveling between job sites and communicating with team members and dispatch to ensure efficient operations
Key Responsibilities
- Operate skid steer equipment safely and efficiently to load, move, and sort scrap metal
- Load scrap metal into roll-off bins, trailers, or transport trucks
- Assist with on-site scrap pile management, including consolidation and material separation
- Support mobile scrap removal at customer locations, including farms, industrial sites, and commercial properties
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance (fueling, greasing, reporting issues)
- Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and site-specific requirements
- Communicate effectively with drivers, dispatch, and site contacts to coordinate work
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Assist with general labour tasks as required, including manual handling of scrap metal
- Complete required paperwork, load tickets, or digital records accurately
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 2 years Class 1 A driving experience with a manual transmission is required.
- Ability to perform physically demanding duties. Physical fitness is required with the ability to lift 50lbs or more, climb ladders, walk long distances, frequent bending and picking up objects off the ground etc.
- Previous experience operating skid steer and excavator.
- Knowledge of safe equipment operation and job-site safety practices
- Mechanical aptitude is considered an asset.
- High degree of respect for equipment and safe work practices.

- Use problem solving skills while using good judgement.
This position requires candidates to
- Have and maintain a valid Class 1 drivers license with a clean drivers abstract.
- Successfully complete pre-employment screening including drug and alcohol testing.
- Successfully complete a background check.
- Work extended hours and travel to various work sites with overnight stays away from home on a 5 on, 3 off schedule (4 nights on the road and 4 nights at home).
