As a Business and Fiscal Planning Advisor in the Mental Health Unit (Ontario Health Support & Transaction Services) within the Ministry of Health's Financial Management Branch, you'll work at the intersection of strategy and operations, guiding sound financial planning, strengthening fiscal processes, and contributing to evidence-based decision-making.

About the job
As part of the Mental Health Unit, you will:
- provide leadership and financial expertise to clients on financial planning and management
- review, analyze, and report on budgets, and provide informed recommendations and advice
- identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities, and deliver actionable insights and reports
- enhance financial processes, tools and reporting to support the fiscal cycle
- support the development of training programs and communication materials
- lead and participate in cross-functional teams and projects
What you bring to the team
Financial and business planning expertise You have:
- demonstrated knowledge of modern controllership principles, business planning, performance measurement, and financial management practices within a large organization
- proven expertise in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
- knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), as well as sound financial and auditing practices
- the ability to acquire knowledge of health care programs, delivery models, and funding systems to support program analysis and advice
- the ability to manage, prioritize, and oversee financial activities while meeting deadlines
Communication and interpersonal skills
You can:
- provide effective advice and consultation to management, clients, and staff while building and maintaining strong working relationships
- communicate information clearly, concisely, and accurately to a variety of audiences
- deliver presentations and use persuasion skills to explain and provide direction on complex financial issues and processes
- prepare complex financial analyses and reports
Research, analytical and problem-solving skills
You can:
- conduct complex financial analyses and research best practices to inform decision-making
- analyze, interpret, and assess financial information
- assess, interpret, and apply financial directives, policies, and legislation, and provide expertise to stakeholders
- evaluate trends, standards, and policies using multiple sources of information to determine impacts, develop options, and make recommendations
Technical skills
You have:
- experience using spreadsheets, databases, and presentation tools to analyze and share information
- demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills
