About the role
Our client is seeking an experienced SharePoint & Information Management Specialist to support the modernization of enterprise content and information management capabilities. The consultant will be responsible for assessing and organizing unstructured data, migrating SharePoint environments from legacy to modern architecture with minimal customization, and preparing the organization’s Microsoft 365 environment for Microsoft Copilot adoption through improved information architecture, governance, and content organization.

Location: Remote
Responsibilities
Assess existing SharePoint environments, file shares, Microsoft Teams, and other unstructured content repositories. Plan and execute SharePoint migrations from legacy/classic environments to modern SharePoint Online with minimal customization. Design information architecture including site structures, metadata, taxonomy, content types, and document organization. Analyze and remediate redundant, obsolete, and trivial (ROT) content. Define records management, retention, and information governance standards aligned with Microsoft 365 best practices. Configure and support Microsoft Purview information governance capabilities, including retention labels and content lifecycle management. Prepare enterprise content for Microsoft Copilot by improving metadata, permissions, document quality, and content discoverability. Review and optimize SharePoint permissions and security to support governance and secure information access. Partner with business stakeholders to classify information and develop future-state document management processes. Document governance standards, migration approaches, and operational procedures. Support user adoption and knowledge transfer throughout migration and modernization activities. Work closely with infrastructure, security, and business teams to deliver SharePoint and information management initiatives.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in SharePoint administration, migration, information management, or records management. Proven experience migrating legacy SharePoint environments to modern SharePoint Online. Experience organizing and governing large volumes of unstructured enterprise content. Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 including SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and information architecture. Experience with Microsoft Purview Information Governance or similar enterprise records management platforms. Understanding of Microsoft Copilot readiness, including content organization, metadata, permissions, and governance. Experience designing metadata, taxonomy, content types, retention policies, and document lifecycle management. Experience using SharePoint migration tools such as ShareGate, Microsoft Migration Manager, or similar platforms. Strong stakeholder engagement, business analysis, facilitation, and documentation skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to Have
Experience within commercial real estate organizations. Experience working with Yardi ERP or related property management platforms. Experience with Microsoft Syntex or SharePoint Premium. Experience with Microsoft Teams governance and OneDrive migrations. Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Microsoft Purview, or Records Management certifications.
Preferred Experience
Enterprise records and information management initiatives. SharePoint modernization and digital workplace transformation projects. Microsoft 365 governance and content lifecycle management. Preparing enterprise content for Microsoft Copilot adoption. Large-scale content migration and information governance programs.
