Job Summary:
The Public Programs Coordinator is a member of the Group Services team with a special focus of responsibilities revolving around the development, implementation, delivery, and promotion of public programs and special events. This full-time position has a flexible schedule dependent on programming and may be required to work evenings as needed.
Principal Tasks:

Develop and facilitate innovative, revenue-generating public-facing programs and special events to attract current members and new visitors

Collaborate with other departments on event planning and execution

Build partnerships with artists, outdoor recreation leaders, specialized presenters, environmental consultants, and Indigenous leaders to enhance programming and offerings

Train and coordinate the programming junior staff

Adhere to and report on the annual programming and event budgets, collaborating with the Group Services & Venue Manager

Work with the Group Services & Venue Manager and Marketing & Communications Manager on the development of an annual public programming strategy

Plan FortWhyte Alive’s public programs calendar on a quarterly basis

Collaborate with the Volunteer Manager for support of the events on the calendar. Provide support & role specific training to these volunteers

Brainstorm new program ideas with staff

Work with the Communications Team to promote Public Programming and Events through a variety of means including social media networks, mass email communications and the website

Consult with the Volunteer Services Manager on volunteer availability, prepare quarterly volunteer requirement lists

Participate in the coordination, organization and presentation of seasonal training programs for volunteers and junior staff

Train, direct and mentor supporting volunteers

Analyze, evaluate and document the outcome of the public programs

Create and monitor the annual public program budget with support from the Group Services & Venue Manager

Oversee youth and seniors programs, ensure staffing and volunteer coverage
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
-
Post secondary education, preferably in Recreation Management or relevant experience

Related program development and event coordination experience, with the ability to think creatively and demonstrate innovation

Experience working with varied groups including children, youth, families, etc.

Outdoor adventure experience including paddling/kayaking
-
Demonstrated organizational and communication skills
-
Self-starter with team player qualities
-
Ability to plan and facilitate events that involve alcohol and music
-
Strong customer service skills
-
Class 4 license, or ability to obtain upon hire

Satisfactory child abuse registry and criminal records check
Assets:

Certification in First Aid and CPR
