Mechanical Design Engineer, Continuous Improvement Position Summary: Reporting to a Design Engineering Supervisor, the successful candidate will work on small to medium sized product design and development projects to resolve production issues from a design perspective, increase manufacturability and efficiency, resolve functional issues with machines, determine root cause and resolve field issues, and design new options for products. Performance Expectations: * Collaborate with a core multifunctional team assigned to resolve production line issues to improve functioning of production line and resolve issues related to design. * Investigate and resolve bill of material (BOM) issues. * Prepare concept, and design and production drawings with supporting calculations and material data ensuring that designs meet specification requirements and manufacturing capabilities. * Identify and assist with implementing cost reductions for process and design. * Workday typically includes designing, having meetings with crossfunctional team, supporting prototype building and some validation and testing, depending on the stage of the project. * Design, formulate and produce complete product related changes for current products in a continuous improvement environment. Improve warranty, ease of assembly, and expand product options for production. * Maintain thorough documentation for all aspects of assigned projects. * Investigate functional issues with machines to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendations for improvement. * Provide support in checking details, assemblies, and BOMs for assigned projects. * Apply a wide variety of established or modified engineering methods or techniques with considerable independence of action * Create, monitor and track project activities to a timeline. * Other duties as assigned. Credentials: * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or C.E.T. in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline. * Preference will be given to candidates registered or working towards their P.Eng designation. Desired Characteristics: * Minimum 2 years of experience as a Mechanical / Electrical designer in a heavy equipment (or related) manufacturing environment. * Experience editing and generating drawings for production intent. * Demonstrated knowledge of Mechanical design, GD&T, DFMEA, welding/fabrication processes. * Design experience with SolidWorks (with formal training preferred); experience with FEA desirable. * Good working knowledge of mechanical design, GD&T, DFMEA, welding / fabrication processes, hydraulic controls and general electrical skills. * Design experience with SolidWorks (with formal training preferred); experience with FEA desirable. * Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with a cross functional technical team as well as with manufacturing personnel. * Strong organizational and leadership skills. Requirements
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a C.E.T. designation. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a heavy equipment manufacturing environment is required, along with proficiency in SolidWorks and GD&T.
