Job summary
We are recruiting an experienced Project Chief- Body Closures Engineer to join our team to support our client in the automotive industry. NOTE: Onsite 100% in Windsor, Ontario Must be willing and able to travel to the USA, without restrictions, effective on the start date Valid driver's license is required as well as a clean driving record Must have a vehicle to drive to suppliers regularly RESPONSIBILITIES: Will oversee all Closures commodities (Door in White, Hood, Fender, Static and Dynamic Sealing, Liftgates) for vehicle programs, from start to finish Early in a program, this will involve working with Product Planning and the Product Design Office (or 'styling') to help guide the design of the vehicle toward feasible technical solutions. Early program work will require extensive collaboration to determine appropriate Cost Weight and Investment targets for the new vehicle. As the design evolves, the Project Chief (PC) will be responsible for tracking on time sourcing (supplier selection) and design release of component designs for tooling. Further in a program, the PC will manage all component and system testing plans and timelines to ensure Closures components are on time and will develop recovery mitigation plans as necessary. Travel is required with significant supplier and assembly plant launch support throughout pilot and launch phases will follow. Will actively manage any warranty or quality issues the customer experiences with exterior trim after program launch REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited or equivalent program 2 years of engineering experience Demonstrable knowledge of Body Closures Track record of strong leadership Must be self-directed Excellent communication and presentation skills required to support the design/development process Knowledge Body Closures, design practices and regulatory compliance specifications PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET-accredited or equivalent program Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma process and/or Green Belt certification Knowledge of reactive problem solving and/or Green Belt certification Trained in DVP&R and DFMEA Knowledge of process standards, advanced LED and Laser technology Automotive Body Closures experience and broad vehicle knowledge Ability to present ideas and concepts successfully to all levels of management Hands-on vehicle experience Experience managing suppliers and/or other team members Good communication skills, both verbal and written Good organizational skills, self-directed and self-motivated, ability to meet deadlines and ability to handle multiple assignments Detailed oriented, team player, flexible and the ability to prioritize Working knowledge of NX/Teamcenter COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: $42.00-46.90/hour (depending on experience) Paid Benefits after 90 days (individual and family) – extended medical, out-of-country coverage, dental etc. Pension eligibility, with employer match, after 1 full year of work MEDA offers an excellent referral bonus.
