Job Description Join an established medical practice in Canso, working alongside allied health such as NPs, nurses, social workers, and dietician to provide primary care to the community. Urgent care services are provided at the Eastern Memorial Hospital (EMH) just across the road which has 6 acute-care beds, and hybrid emergency services, core diagnostic services (including laboratory, x-ray and EKG), diabetes education centre; palliative care; physiotherapy; occupational therapy; foot care clinic; social work; mental health and addiction services; public health and continuing care services. Canso Medical Clinic and EMH offers the intrepid, broad-scope physician all of the excitement and challenges of remote medicine but the comfort of having a regional hospital and services only 90min away, ground and air transport, specialist consultants ready and willing to provide phone support. Tertiary hospitals and Pediatric facilities are in Halifax. Situated on the waterfront, the clinic and hospital have nearby walking/running trails, boating, fishing, and stunning scenery. With the Canso Spaceport in development, it is set to be a bustling area and will have unique health service needs. Read more here. The patient population is a mix of older residents, new families and school-aged children, fishers, tradespeople and a fluctuating population. There is approximately 800 year-round residents and fluctuations in the summers with tourists, vacationers, festivals, fishers, and the ongoing development and launch schedule at the Spaceport. Currently 2 physicians alternate in a 2-week rotation. There is opportunity to work with incoming providers to suit their needs. Responsibilities provide comprehensive, full-scope primary health care to practice patients of all ages and stages of health and illness maintain timely and accurate patient records using a provincially approved electronic medical record (EMR) participate in quality improvement, practice evaluation, and other activities that support the delivery of safe, effective, patient-centered care attend regular physician and team meetings comply with the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, policies, and professional standards of Nova Scotia Health partake in continuing medical education (CME) and professional development opportunities participate in teaching of medical learners Expected Hours Full-time or part-time call schedule: negotiable with virtual back up Remuneration Longitudinal Family Medicine (LFM) contract approximately $390,000CAD family physicians in Nova Scotia are compensated based on the LFM payment model or Fee for Service (FFS) Incentives Eligible physicians may qualify for recruitment incentives, relocation support and site visit reimbursement through Nova Scotia Health and the Province of Nova Scotia. Requirements
Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia and certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is also required.
