Job summary

About the role Pangeo Group is building an aluminum die casting and machining plant in Vaughan, Ontario, our first die casting operation in North America. As Senior Accountant, you run the plant's day-to-day accounting and month-end close, keep costing and inventory accurate, and give the Controller numbers that hold up. This is a hands-on role through start-up and ramp. You will work closely with the Controller and Operations, help build the accounting and costing routines from scratch, and spend real time on the production floor. Responsibilities Close, reporting, and reconciliation Own the day-to-day accounting and post journal entries for COGS, inventory movements, and production costs. Run a timely, accurate month-end close for your areas, and reconcile the key balance-sheet accounts (inventory, accruals, GR/IR, prepaids). Prepare schedules and support for the plant's budget, forecasts, and reporting to the Controller. Keep the books audit-ready and support compliance with company policy, GAAP/ASPE, and local regulations. Costing and operational analysis Maintain standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead, and keep them current as the plant ramps. Run variance analysis (PPV, usage, labor efficiency, absorption), verify BOM and routing accuracy, and work root cause with Operations. Provide the cost data and analysis that support operational improvement and measurable savings. Transactions, controls, and systems Process AP and AR: review vendor invoices, ensure correct cost centers and GL coding, and support timely supplier payment and collections. Support internal controls and internal/external audit, and help safeguard company assets. Help build the close calendar, standard work, master data, and dashboards, and use AI tools to take over routine finance work. Own the approval workflows for requisitions, supplier setup, and AP, so cost centers and GL coding are right at entry. What we're looking for Ownership. You take responsibility for your accounts and get them right the first time. Depth. When a number does not match what you see on the floor, you go find out why. Integrity. No shortcuts. You hold the books to a high standard. Partnership. You work with Operations day to day and give them straight answers on the numbers. Qualifications 3+ years in accounting, ideally in a manufacturing environment; plant or cost accounting experience an asset. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or working toward CPA an asset. Applied knowledge of month-end close, reconciliations, standard costing, and variance analysis. Experience supporting budgeting, internal controls, and audit; solid GAAP/ASPE knowledge. ERP proficiency (SAP preferred); advanced Excel; practical experience using AI tools in finance work an asset. How the role is measured (your KPIs) Month-end close: on-time, variance-explained close for your areas, with clean reconciliations and no restatements. Standard-cost accuracy: standard versus actual, and standards re-rolled promptly as the plant ramps. Variance closure: PPV, usage, labor efficiency, and absorption worked to root cause with Operations. Reconciliations: balance-sheet accounts reconciled monthly and kept audit-ready. AP/AR health: on-time payments, overdue receivables, and cycle-count accuracy. Targets are set and reviewed internally each year as the function matures.
