Job summary

Our client is a leading hospitality organization with a portfolio of hotels across the region. We are seeking an experienced Operations Accountant to join the corporate finance team in downtown Toronto. Career path to the Controller role This position will oversee the full-cycle accounting operations for multiple hotel properties, working closely with General Managers, hotel operations, payroll, and the corporate finance team. The successful candidate will be a hands-on accounting professional with strong technical accounting skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-property environment. Key Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day full-cycle accounting activities for four or more hotel properties. Prepare and process daily revenue journal entries, month-end journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and monthly financial statements. Prepare and analyze monthly income statements, identifying trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Investigate financial variances and prepare appropriate adjusting journal entries and supporting documentation. Oversee the Accounts Payable function, including invoice processing, approvals, reconciliations, and biweekly cheque runs. Coordinate and process third-party payroll, ensuring accurate and timely recording of payroll-related transactions. Prepare, reconcile, and process statutory remittances, including applicable HST and other regulatory requirements. Partner with General Managers and hotel operations to address accounting and financial inquiries and provide ongoing financial support. Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including preparation of financial data and analysis. Monitor key financial and operating indicators and provide insight into hotel performance. Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and financial systems. Prepare financial information, analysis, and reporting for the Controller and VP of Finance. Perform additional accounting and financial analysis as required. Qualifications 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the hospitality/hotel industry. Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Hotel accounting experience is strongly preferred. Experience supporting multiple properties or entities is an asset. Strong technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both corporate and operational teams. Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, confidence, and a strong sense of accountability. Ability to build credibility and strong working relationships with General Managers and hotel operations teams. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with Sage 300 / ACCPAC is preferred. Experience with hotel property-management or hospitality accounting systems is an asset. Why This Opportunity?
