About Pulse CPA Pulse Chartered Professional Accountants is a CPA-led outsourced finance team based in Oakville, Ontario. We provide ongoing accounting, reporting, controller, and fractional CFO support to non-profits, charities, associations, and growing organizations across Canada. Our clients rely on us to keep their financial information accurate, current, and ready for management, boards, funders, and auditors. Our work includes structured monthly closes, financial and board reporting, restricted contribution and grant tracking, cash-flow planning, and audit and year-end preparation. Each client engagement is overseen by a senior CPA and supported by a consistent preparer-and-reviewer process. We combine cloud-based systems and efficient workflows with strong professional judgment and responsive client service. About the Role Pulse CPA is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting and reporting for a portfolio of clients. You will take ownership of monthly close and reporting cycles, maintain accurate supporting schedules, prepare meaningful financial reports, and help clients strengthen their accounting processes. You will work directly with client leadership, auditors, and the Pulse CPA team while managing multiple engagements and deadlines. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys both detailed accounting work and client interaction. It requires someone who can identify issues, investigate discrepancies, and move work forward without waiting for step-by-step instructions. Key Responsibilities Manage monthly accounting and reporting for an assigned portfolio of clients. Complete month-end close procedures according to established close calendars. Prepare and review bank, credit card, payroll, revenue, receivable, payable, deferred contribution, and other balance-sheet reconciliations. Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, budget-to-actual reporting, variance analysis, and supporting schedules. Maintain restricted contribution, grant, program, and project reporting. Prepare cash-flow forecasts, reserve analyses, and financial scenarios when required. Coordinate audit and year-end preparation, including working papers, schedules, supporting documentation, and auditor requests. Investigate accounting discrepancies and resolve issues with clients and internal team members. Communicate financial results and accounting matters clearly to client leadership and other non-finance stakeholders. Support budgeting, forecasting, and management-reporting engagements. Review work prepared by other team members and provide practical feedback. Improve accounting processes, controls, templates, and recurring workflows. Work within client systems such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, NetSuite, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Quaifications CPA designation or advanced progress toward a recognized Canadian CPA designation. At least five years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for full-cycle accounting and month-end reporting. Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation, accrual accounting, reconciliations, and balance-sheet management. Experience managing multiple entities, client files, or reporting cycles simultaneously. Experience with non-profit or charitable accounting, including restricted contributions, grants, fund accounting, and audit preparation. Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel. Experience with other accounting or ERP systems is an asset; candidates are not expected to have used every platform listed. Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify unusual transactions, incomplete information, and accounting risks. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial matters to non-finance stakeholders. Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while remaining responsive and collaborative. Sound professional judgment, integrity, and a commitment to high-quality client service. The successful candidate will consistently deliver accurate, well-supported financial reporting on schedule; maintain organized and audit-ready client files; communicate issues before they become problems; and become a trusted point of contact for both clients and the Pulse CPA team. This role offers the opportunity to work with purpose-driven organizations, take meaningful ownership of client relationships, and contribute to the continued development of a growing CPA firm. You will work closely with senior CPAs while gaining exposure to accounting, reporting, systems improvement, and financial advisory work across a diverse client portfolio. If you are a proactive accountant who enjoys creating order, improving financial information, and helping clients understand their numbers, we would like to hear from you.
