Workday Functional Consultant / Project Lead (1-Year Contract) We’re seeking an experienced Workday Functional Consultant / Project Lead to support major HR technology initiatives, complex project delivery, and system optimizations on a 1-year contract. Operating fully remotely (working MST hours), this consultant will lead and execute critical Workday configuration initiatives—including new legal entity setups, organizational restructures, union maintenance, business process enhancements, and M&A activities. This contract requires a incorporated professional who can act as a trusted advisor, bridging functional design with hands-on execution across HR, Payroll, Finance, and Digital teams. Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To Lead functional design, end-to-end configuration, testing, cutover, and deployment for Workday projects, including legal entity setups, union/collective agreement maintenance, and supervisory org changes. Gather and translate complex business requirements into scalable Workday solutions, conducting fit-gap analyses aligned with leading practices. Provide high-tier HRIS sustainment and production support, troubleshooting complex system issues and resolving root causes. Evaluate Workday release features, execute regression testing, and maintain system stability, security, and data integrity. Identify continuous improvement opportunities to streamline business processes, reduce manual work, and establish governance standards. Facilitate requirements-gathering workshops and maintain clear communication on project status, risks, and dependencies with key business stakeholders. Your Strengths Include: 5+ years of hands-on Workday functional configuration experience across Core HCM and related modules (Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence, Compensation, Recruiting, Benefits, or Security). Proven track record leading Workday projects from initial design through post-production hypercare. Demonstrated experience configuring Workday for unionized workforces, legal entity additions, restructures, or M&A activities. Deep understanding of Workday business processes, security architecture, data structures, and custom reporting. Exceptional troubleshooting, testing management, and process documentation capabilities. Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment. Contract Requirements: Candidates must be incorporated and available to work full-time hours aligned with Mountain Standard Time (MST). Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience within energy, utilities, manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries. Active or previous Workday certifications; specialized hands-on experience in Workday Canadian Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence. Experience collaborating with third-party implementation partners and cross-functional technology vendors.
