Be part of an exciting opportunity to advance privacy at a pivotal moment for Sinai Health. As a Specialist, Privacy and Information Access, you will be an integral member of Sinai Health’s small, highly collaborative Privacy and Information Access Office supporting our institution-wide Privacy program. You will work with integrated teams to advance a culture of privacy including to support our digital transformation strategy and inaugural Research Strategic Plan. Reporting directly to the Director of Privacy and Information Access, the Senior Specialist will play a key role in supporting the Privacy and Information Access Office by leading and facilitating activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of Sinai Health’s privacy program across clinical, research and corporate programs and services In this role you will: Support digital transformation, and the development of projects and other initiatives by conducting privacy impact assessments (PIAs), privacy reviews and providing guidance/recommendations to enhance privacy Support the development and operationalization of privacy practices within the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute Act as the Privacy Office’s first point of contact for privacy inquires, complaints and concerns from internal and external stakeholders, including members of the public Process and manage patient privacy requests, including corrections, consent directives, and consent override investigations Develop and amend policies and guidelines related to privacy matters Conduct privacy incident investigations Develop and manage internal privacy training, and promote privacy awareness across the organization Support the development of projects and other initiatives by conducting privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and providing guidance/recommendations to enhance privacy Assist in processing Freedom of Information (FOI) requests Perform regular privacy audits Keep abreast of changing requirements and trends in privacy and information access Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required Job Requirements: Mandatory Successful completion of an Undergraduate Degree in a related health discipline (e.g., Health Sciences, Health Information Management, Public Policy, Information Governance, or related discipline) from an accredited educational institution or equivalent work experience 2 years of experience in privacy, preferably in a hospital environment Preferred Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C) Designation Experience with Cerner and/or Meditech Experience with conducting PIAs / privacy reviews Experience with Epic Experience with conducting or supporting research within an academic research hospital, university, on a research ethics board, or equivalent Skills and Knowledge Knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and ability to apply applicable law and legal/regulatory decisions and Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) guidelines to real world situations Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Professional Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with proven sensitivity, patience, discretion, tact and good judgment when dealing with patients, families, visitors and staff members Excellent presentation and training skills Ability to work independently and take initiative Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to respond to numerous demands, prioritize work activities accordingly, and manage expectations of key stakeholders If this sounds like you and you feel ready to build your career within Privacy & Information Access, apply now and let us know why you’d be a great addition to our team.
