The Opportunity We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Tax Analyst to join our Cross-Border/US Tax Group in our Vancouver office. This is a fantastic opportunity for a tax professional with at least 3+ years of experience in public practice and a keen interest in U.S. and Canadian cross-border taxation. You'll work in a dynamic and supportive team, developing your technical and advisory skills while serving a diverse range of clients. What You’ll Be Doing As a Senior Tax Analyst, you will: * Prepare and review complex U.S. and Canadian personal income tax returns for high-net-worth individuals with cross-border tax obligations * Conduct detailed technical research and analysis on U.S., Canadian, and treaty-based tax issues (e.g., residency determinations, treaty tie-breaker rules, sourcing rules, FTC optimization) * Identify and assess client-specific tax planning opportunities and exposures; proactively escalate to managers/partners as appropriate * Liaise directly with clients, and internal engagement teams * Act as primary point of contact for assigned client files, managing communications, information requests, and project timelines * Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing coaching, feedback, and technical support * Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing (e.g., prepare technical briefs, update templates, lead training sessions) * Support continuous improvement efforts (e.g., process documentation, automation tools, template refinement) What You Bring * Canadian or US CPA designation (or in final stages of completion) or US Enrolled Agent * Minimum 3–4 years of experience in public practice, with exposure to U.S. and/or cross-border tax * Strong technical knowledge of tax principles, with an eagerness to grow cross-border expertise * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Confidence in managing client relationships and working in a team-based environment * Attention to detail and strong organizational skills Why Smythe?
