About The Role We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Estimator to join our growing pre-construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for commercial mechanical construction projects. This role will focus on analyzing drawings, specifications, and proposals for HVAC, plumbing, heating, sheet metal, and piping systems. The ideal candidate will have strong estimating experience, excellent analytical skills, and a proven ability to develop competitive bids for large-scale mechanical projects ranging from $1M to $15M+. Key Responsibilities Perform detailed digital quantity take-offs for HVAC, plumbing, sheet metal, and piping systems using industry-standard estimating tools. Prepare comprehensive cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead costs. Review blueprints, architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents to identify scope requirements, risks, and potential gaps. Solicit, review, and negotiate pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and equipment manufacturers. Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions while maintaining project quality and system performance. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, general contractors, and clients during pre-construction planning and project handoff. Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost information, and labor productivity data. Prepare professional bid proposals and support successful project acquisition. Qualifications & Requirements 3-5+ years of experience in mechanical estimating for ICI (Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional) projects. Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, heating, sheet metal, and piping systems. Experience preparing estimates for commercial mechanical construction projects. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and construction documents. Proficiency with mechanical estimating and project software, including: Procore, Trimble Estimation / QuickPen and Bluebeam Revu Strong understanding of commercial mechanical codes and industry standards, including: NBC Alberta standards, City of Calgary commercial building requirements, CSA standards, SMACNA guidelines and ASHRAE standards Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to visualize and understand complex 3D mechanical systems from 2D drawings. Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate with vendors and present bids to clients and stakeholders. Experience managing estimates for projects valued at $1M+ is preferred. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience through mechanical trade background, journeyman certification, or relevant industry experience will be considered.
