About The Role We are seeking an experienced Petroleum Superintendent to oversee onsite construction activities for commercial, retail petroleum, and light industrial projects. The Petroleum Superintendent will work closely with the Project Manager to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to high-quality standards. This position requires a strong field leader with experience managing construction projects valued between $1M and $10M, coordinating subcontractors and trades, and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and project requirements. The ideal candidate is a hands-on construction professional with strong knowledge of petroleum construction and the ability to effectively communicate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, trades, and internal teams. Key Responsibilities Safety & Compliance Lead and maintain a strong safety culture on project sites. Ensure compliance with OHS legislation, industry standards, company policies, and project-specific requirements. Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and incident reporting. Verify required employee training and certifications are current. Promote safe work practices throughout all project activities. Project Scheduling & Execution Work closely with the Project Manager to plan and execute construction activities. Develop and maintain short- and long-term project schedules. Coordinate trades, subcontractors, consultants, inspections, and project milestones. Monitor project progress and address scheduling or execution issues. Ensure projects remain on schedule and meet established requirements. Budget & Resource Management Monitor labour, materials, equipment, contracts, and overall resource utilization. Support procurement activities and ensure materials and equipment are available when required. Maintain accurate time, receipt, and cost tracking. Support L.E.M. processes and effective cost control. Quality Assurance & Control Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, building codes, and trade requirements. Implement and maintain QA/QC processes throughout the project. Monitor workmanship and ensure completed work meets required quality and performance standards. Coordinate inspections and address deficiencies promptly. Site & Team Leadership Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to site teams. Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, trades, and other stakeholders. Mentor and coach field employees. Maintain a professional, collaborative, and productive site environment. Represent the company professionally and demonstrate strong leadership values. Project Documentation Maintain accurate daily site logs and project records. Document site activities through photos and Digital Twin captures. Maintain inspection records and other required project documentation. Ensure project information is accurate, organized, and up to date. Hands-On Field Support Provide hands-on support to the project team when required. Assist with carpentry and general labour activities to support safe and efficient project execution. Qualifications & Experience Journeyman Carpenter certification or post-secondary education in a relevant discipline. 5+ years of construction experience, preferably in commercial, retail petroleum, or light industrial projects. 5+ years of Superintendent-level experience managing projects valued between $1M and $10M. Experience leading retail petroleum construction projects is highly preferred. Petroleum Mechanic 2 & 3 certification is an asset. Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Strong understanding of construction safety, quality control, scheduling, and project coordination. Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new construction technologies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong leadership, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Willingness and availability to travel to project sites throughout Western Canada.

Requirements

Requires a Journeyman Carpenter certification or relevant post-secondary education with over 5 years of experience in construction and superintendent-level management. Experience in retail petroleum projects and the ability to travel across Western Canada are highly preferred.
