Job summary

We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to step into a scientific leadership role on a CIHR-funded project. This study explores a preclinical model of primary progressive MS based on an Nr1h3 (LXRA) mutation found in families with a highly severe and aggressive form of the disease, which disrupts immunomodulatory pathways and cholesterol reverse transport/lipid metabolism. Core Responsibilities · Drive the Science: Lead aspects of the CIHR-funded project investigating mechanisms of neuroinflammation, myelin injury, and repair. · Execute In Vivo & In Vitro Models: Design and run studies using transgenic mouse models, macrophages, microglia, and CNS-resident immune cells. · Oversee Cell Culture Studies: Isolate and maintain primary rodent neural (neuronal, glial) and immune cell cultures alongside cell lines. · Utilize Advanced Techniques: Perform phagocytosis assays, IHC, multicolor spectral flow cytometry, advanced microscopic analyses, live-cell imaging, and molecular analyses (qPCR, siRNA, cDNA delivery). · Integrate Omics Approaches: Oversee and interpret bulk/single-cell transcriptomic and proteomic data. · Communicate & Publish: Synthesize complex datasets, author manuscripts, contribute to grants, and present findings at international conferences. · Mentor & Collaborate: Provide hands-on mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students while collaborating with academic, clinical, and interdisciplinary team partners. Qualifications · Education: PhD in neuroscience, immunology, pathology, cell biology, or a related biomedical science field. · Technical Strengths: Strong hands-on experience with mouse models of demyelinating disease, cell culture methods (primary rodent neural/immune cells), multicolor spectral flow, advanced microscopic analyses, or live-cell imaging. · Data Expertise: Familiarity or direct experience with single-cell transcriptomics, proteomics, or systems biology datasets. · Leadership Traits: Proven record of peer-reviewed publications, scientific independence, creativity, and strong organizational skills. · Team Mindset: Dedicated to scientific rigor, reproducibility, inclusive mentorship, and working across diverse perspectives.
