Work setting Various locations Responsibilities Tasks Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy Load and unload goods Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment Perform brake adjustments Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle Perform preventive maintenance Receive and relay information to central dispatch Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption Credentials Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses Driver's License (Class 1 or A) Experience and specialization Documentation knowledge Driver logbook Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip) Trip reports Type of trucking and equipment Tractor-trailer Communication systems experience Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment Trip recorder (on-board computer) Additional information Transportation/travel information Valid driver's licence Willing to travel for extended periods Work conditions and physical capabilities Handling heavy loads Sitting Personal suitability Team player

What you’ll do

Drive straight or articulated trucks, often as part of a two-person team or convoy, to transport goods and materials. Load and unload cargo, inspect and maintain the vehicle, communicate with central dispatch, and record trip, cargo, service-hour, distance, and fuel information.

Requirements

Requires a secondary school graduation certificate, one to less than two years of experience, and a valid Class 1 or Class A driver's licence. Candidates must be willing to travel for extended periods and be able to handle heavy loads and work as part of a team.
