Employer: 'Na̱mǥis First Nation Location: Alert Bay, BC Worksite: Administration and Natural Resources Building Employment type: Full-time, on-site Hours of Work: 4:30 pm to Midnight Salary: Level 06; $19.84/hr - $22.91/hr ($36,109 - $41,696 annual), commensurate with experience Reports to: Assistant Administrator Posting closes: Until filled About The Role The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the Administration and Natural Resources Building. This includes daily cleaning of interior spaces, basic upkeep of exterior areas, and ensuring the facility is secure and ready for clients, staff, and community members. This role supports the overall health, safety, and comfort of everyone who visits or works within the buildings. Key Responsibilities Maintain interior spaces including floors, washrooms, common areas, offices, and program rooms to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Maintain exterior areas such as entrances, walkways, and surrounding grounds to support overall facility cleanliness and safety. Secure the facility after hours, ensuring all doors and windows are locked and the building is safe before closing. Monitor and report maintenance issues such as equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or required repairs to the Supervisor in a timely manner. Replenish cleaning and washroom supplies and ensure equipment is used and stored safely. Follow all health, safety, and sanitation procedures, including safe handling of cleaning chemicals and compliance with WHMIS standards. Qualifications and Experience Previous janitorial or custodial experience in an office, community facility, school, or similar environment (an asset). Knowledge of safe cleaning practices, including proper use of cleaning products, equipment, and disinfectants. WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting, bending, standing, and operating cleaning equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Additional Requirements Reliable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Good communication skills and the ability to report issues clearly and promptly.
