About Us The Department of Cell & Systems Biology (CSB) at the University of Toronto is a vibrant and highly collaborative scientific community that pursues innovative research in molecular life sciences, systems biology and biology education. We investigate the behaviour of cells – the fundamental units of life – in terms of molecular processes within and between cells. Our researchers integrate both hypothesis-driven and discovery-based strategies to gain a mechanistic understanding of complex and highly dynamic cellular systems and how they govern the development, physiology, and evolution of organisms. CSB is home to a world-class research ecosystem providing access to state-of-the-art platforms in neurophysiology, high-throughput genomics, advanced cellular imaging, chemical biology, proteomics, and computational modeling. These systems contribute to new methodologies for studying the fundamental biological mechanisms that govern interactions at all levels of complexity, ranging from molecules to communities.
