Job summary
Job Summary Young Engineers is looking for an experienced and energetic instructor to deliver hands-on STEM and engineering programs for school-aged students at schools, childcare centres, before and after school programs, and community locations across Calgary. Our programs combine engineering concepts with hands-on building activities. Instructors guide students through each lesson, demonstrate concepts and models, support students during the building process, and maintain an organized and positive classroom environment. Position Details Part-time / Casual Pay: From $20.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications Additional referral incentives may be available for introducing new schools, childcare centres, before and after school programs, or community organizations that result in a confirmed partnership Starting from approximately 10 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours Work may be scheduled between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM on weekdays Classes are delivered at different locations across Calgary Instructors may occasionally travel between multiple locations during the same workday Mileage reimbursement is provided when travel between work locations is required during the same day What You’ll Do Deliver structured, hands-on STEM and engineering lessons to school-aged students Introduce engineering and science concepts in an age-appropriate and engaging way Guide students through building and operating motorized engineering models Manage classroom behaviour and keep students actively involved Prepare, transport, organize, and return teaching kits and classroom materials Communicate professionally with school, childcare, and before and after school program staff Follow Young Engineers lesson plans, teaching methods, and safety procedures Requirements Minimum 3 years of experience working directly with children in teaching, tutoring, educational assistance, childcare, before and after school programs, recreation, or a similar setting Strong classroom management skills and confidence leading groups of children Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle Ability and willingness to travel to different program locations Comfortable with a highly hands-on teaching environment Ability to safely lift and carry teaching kits weighing up to approximately 15 kg Reliable, organized, punctual, and comfortable working independently Engineering or STEM experience is not mandatory . Full program and curriculum training will be provided. Retired Teachers and Educational Assistants Are Encouraged to Apply We especially welcome applications from retired teachers and Educational Assistants who are interested in flexible part-time work while continuing to work with children. This position can be a good fit for experienced educators looking for supplemental income without returning to a full-time school schedule.
