Commercial Transactions Analyst Location: Calgary, AB Industry: Crude Oil & NGL Marketing / Commodity Transactions Employment Type: Contract About the Role Our client is seeking a Commercial Transactions Analyst to join their Commodity Transactions team supporting the Crude Oil and NGL portfolio. This role is responsible for the accurate actualization, pricing, reconciliation, and settlement of commodity transactions across physical crude oil and NGL movements. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert for volumetric and pricing data, working closely with Trading, Scheduling, Risk, Finance, Treasury, Contract Administration, and Business Development teams to ensure accurate transaction processing, invoicing, and financial reporting. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced commodity marketing, settlements, or trade operations professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced commercial environment and has a strong understanding of crude oil and NGL transactions. Key Responsibilities Commodity Transaction Management Manage volumetric actualization activities within ETRM and related systems Maintain and reconcile shipper balances for purchases, sales, transfers, and inventory movements Validate, allocate, and reconcile transportation fees, tariffs, demurrage charges, and other transaction-related costs Support month-end settlement and accounting activities through accurate transaction processing and reporting Ensure data integrity and compliance within all transaction systems and records Pricing & Settlement Prepare and maintain commodity pricing reports on a weekly and monthly basis Administer proprietary and intercompany pricing activities Calculate and confirm third-party transaction pricing with counterparties Update non-risk price curves and pricing information within ETRM platforms Support forecasting initiatives through data gathering, model maintenance, and pricing analysis Reconciliation & Reporting Manage Bill of Lading (BOL) entry and reconciliation for rail and truck movements Reconcile volumetric movements, transportation charges, and fee recoveries Support terminal receipt reporting and operational reporting requirements Investigate pricing discrepancies and resolve settlement issues with internal and external stakeholders Stakeholder Collaboration Partner with Trading teams to understand contract pricing structures and resolve pricing disputes Work closely with Scheduling teams to reconcile commodity movements across pipelines, terminals, and facilities Collaborate with Business Development to ensure contracted transportation fees and tariffs are properly reflected Support Risk, Finance, Treasury, and Accounting teams with transaction-related inquiries and reporting requirements Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve business processes, reporting, and system efficiency Support automation initiatives and workflow enhancements Develop and maintain process documentation to support business continuity and knowledge transfer Qualifications Required 5+ years of experience in Commodity Marketing, Trade Operations, Commodity Settlements, Commercial Operations, or related analytical roles Strong understanding of crude oil and/or NGL transaction settlement processes Experience working with volumetric reconciliations, pricing calculations, and commodity transaction reporting Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally Preferred Experience working within physical crude oil or NGL marketing environments Experience with ETRM and commodity management systems such as: Allegro RightAngle Egistix Other commodity trading and risk management platforms Experience supporting Trading, Scheduling, Risk, Accounting, and Treasury groups Knowledge of transportation contracts, tariffs, demurrage, shipper balances, and settlement processes What We Offer Brunel provides the opportunity to work on major projects with leading organizations in mining, energy, infrastructure, and related technical industries. Requirements
Requires at least five years of experience in commodity marketing, trade operations, settlements, commercial operations, or a related analytical role, along with a strong understanding of crude oil and/or NGL settlements. Candidates should have advanced Excel skills, experience with volumetric reconciliation and pricing calculations, and strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities; ETRM experience is preferred.
