Job Summary Printing Services is an Ancillary unit that provides cost effective, timely and high-quality print-related services in support of Dalhousie’s teaching, learning and research activities. Reporting to the Manager, Printing Services, the Operations Supervisor oversees daily printing operations, print project coordination, and campus-wide multifunction device services. The role supports the production team, manages vendor relationships and procurement activities, ensures quality customer service, and helps maintain efficient, cost-effective, and safe printing operations. Key Responsibilities Coordinate daily printing operations by prioritizing print orders, allocating staff and equipment resources, and ensuring projects are completed accurately and on schedule. Manage outsourced print projects, including obtaining vendor quotations, submitting purchase requisitions, and coordinating with vendors for production and delivery. Oversee the fleet of multifunction devices across campus by coordinating installations, relocations, upgrades, maintenance, and vendor support to maximize equipment performance. Procure paper, supplies, and printing-related equipment, monitor inventory levels, and administer purchasing activities in accordance with university policies and procedures. Provide production support during peak periods by operating finishing equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring safe and efficient production workflows. Support staff training, onboarding, and workflow coordination, while assisting with recruitment activities and escalating performance or operational issues as appropriate. Note Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus. Required Qualifications Completion of a vocational, skilled trades, or related two-year college program plus a minimum of five years of supervisory experience in a print production environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience). Extensive knowledge of digital printing, offset printing, prepress, finishing methods, print production workflows, and cost estimating. Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage changing priorities and deadlines. Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance, staff training, and safety instruction in the operation of print production and finishing equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database applications. Assets Experience managing a fleet of multifunction devices (MFDs). Graphic and Print Production certification or related print industry training. Experience with large-format, high-volume, and commercial printing operations.
