Scrum Master Location: Toronto, ON Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid — 2 days onsite currently (subject to change) Contract Details Position Type: Contract Contract Duration: 12 months (extension possible; conversion to permanent possible) Pay Rate: C$70.00–C$85.00 / Hour (CAD) Shift / Schedule: Monday to Friday, core business hours Travel Requirements: Not required Job Summary This is a specialized professional role that focuses on the improvement of the agile team and champions the Agile and Scaled Agile methodology. The Scrum Master provides guidance to teams, peers, and executives on applying the Agile mindset, protects the team from outside distractions, facilitates ceremonies, removes impediments, and builds a strong, collaborative agile team. The Scrum Master understands Scaled Agile and helps stakeholders work according to this method for the benefit of the team and customers. In this role, the Scrum Master will lead 2 to 3 scrum teams (8 to 10 people) as part of a value creation plan for TDS. Key Responsibilities Drives continuous improvement and change, acting as a change agent to adapt processes to maximize productivity across teams of teams Engages appropriate stakeholders to identify and manage impediments to achieve outcomes of work commitments Identifies agile team improvement opportunities and looks externally for best practices in order to increase team productivity Makes sure there is no hidden work, ensuring that everything the agile team is working on is acknowledged and accounted for in the Product Backlog, protecting the team from distractions Owns championing of agile practices and ceremonies Provides advice and guidance to the agile team, as required, regarding best practices in Scaled Agile Ensures team adheres to Work In Progress Limits established by the Product Owner, making sure the team is not working on too many stories/tasks at once, and helps them get into a flow of starting and completing work in a predictable manner Encourages the team to look for opportunities to support each other (e.g., focus on higher priority stories that team members are struggling with) Ensures a collaborative culture exists within the team, promotes team building and ensures team engagement Coordinates and facilitates ceremony logistics and ensures all Agile ceremonies/processes are held and all team members are present and on time, in particular, the daily stand-up meeting Ensures engagement of appropriate control partners Works across the agile team to ensure required assessments and information are accurate and up to date Required Skills Scrum Master experience in a scaled agile context — 5 years Experience working in a software development context — 5 years Proficiency in Jira Scaled agile ceremonies and concepts Good facilitation, influence, and conflict resolution skills; able to guide senior leaders, diverse teams, and stakeholders Strong servant leadership mindset with the ability to influence without direct authority Excellent risk management to identify "critical path" items in a sprint that could delay a major waterfall milestone Data-driven mindset; comfortable with metrics, flow analysis, and ART health assessment Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills (verbal, written, presentation) Ability to thrive in ambiguity and drive alignment in large, cross-functional settings Experience working in complex, Scaled Agile environments (software development, ID, product, or enterprise transformation) 3 years' experience with Agile Management tools Preferred Skills Familiar with different agile systems such as Kanban Experience with systems or design thinking Experience in regulated industries (e.g., Finance) and DevOps / continuous delivery environments Background in change management or organizational agility transformations 5–7 years Agile-related experience Education Requirements Post-secondary education required Undergraduate degree (nice to have) Certified Scrum Master with 3 years of Scrum Master experience required Scrum Master certification or SAFe Agile certification (nice to have) Required Experience At least 5 years of overall Scrum Master experience, minimum Experience operating as a Scrum Master in a scaled agile context Worked in a software development context — preferably outside of a financial institution About the Client This client is one of North America's largest financial institutions — the sixth-largest bank on the continent by branches — serving approximately 22 million customers across Canada, the United States, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. Requirements
Requires at least five years of Scrum Master experience, including work in scaled Agile and software development contexts, plus proficiency in Jira and strong facilitation, leadership, risk management, and stakeholder communication skills. Post-secondary education and a Certified Scrum Master credential with three years of Scrum Master experience are required; an undergraduate degree and SAFe or other Scrum Master certification are preferred.
