Make your mark while you grow your career! Are you passionate about working at a world class mining operation? Canadian Natural is seeking a well-rounded Production Geologist with strong technical and communication skills to join our Horizon Production Geology team. In this role, you will support daily field operations by ensuring safe, compliant, and effective delivery of ore to the plant, while contributing to continuous improvement of the geological modelling and interpretation.
- Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta – Horizon Oil Sands
- Shift schedule: 7 x 7, 12-hour shifts, rotating days/nights (Tuesday - Monday)

Key Accountabilities:
- Work as a key member of the Production Geology team supporting day-to-day mining operations, and be accountable for ore-grade validation, monitoring shovel advances, and ensuring accurate material qualities are sent to the plant
- Conduct daily field investigations of active mining faces to validate the geological model and assess mine plan execution in real time
- Track and analyze mine data to improve the geology modelling and execution; optimize and adjust mining benches as the mine progresses
- Apply strong knowledge of the McMurray Formation and depositional environments to support short-range planning, refine geological interpretations, and optimize shovel blending strategies
- Ensure effective communication of real-time geological conditions, ore properties, and potential to cross-functional stakeholders, including Field Geology, Mine Engineering, Mine Operations, and Plant Engineering
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance data quality, refine workflows, and maximize resource recovery
What You Bring to the Role:
- Geology degree from a recognized institution
- Registered or eligible to register with APEGA as P.Geo.
- 5+ years’ experience in geology; open-pit mining experience considered a strong asset
- Proficient with MS 365; experience with Power Bi, MinePlan (Minesight) and Petrel is an asset
- Strong communications skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, data-driven, multidisciplinary environment
- Demonstrated interest or experience in data analytics, coding, or digital innovation is considered an asset
- Valid class 5 Drivers' License with a clean abstract as driving is a critical component of this role
