Kichton Construction LP is the Fort McMurray-based Heavy Civil entity within the Kichton Group of companies which has been operating since 1963. Kichton Construction LP commenced operations in 2019 as the industrial division of the Kichton Group to serve the Energy and Mining Industries throughout North America. Since inception, KCLP has grown sustainably and exponentially, starting with 30 experienced team members in 2019, to now over 400 team members and over 300 pieces of heavy equipment.
Position Summary
The Warehouse/Purchasing Coordinator is responsible for managing the procurement, inventory control, warehousing, and distribution of parts, materials, consumables, and shop supplies required to support Kichton Construction LP's heavy equipment maintenance operations throughout the Alberta oil sands. This position plays a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime by ensuring the timely availability of parts and maintaining accurate inventory records while supporting cost-effective purchasing practices. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in heavy equipment parts, inventory management, vendor relations, and purchasing within a construction, mining, or industrial maintenance environment. Rotation is negotiable e.g. 14 x 14 or 5 x 2.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Procurement
Purchase heavy equipment parts, components, shop supplies, tools, lubricants, consumables, and maintenance materials. Obtain quotations from suppliers and negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and product availability. Issue purchase orders and ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and approval limits. Source alternate suppliers when necessary to reduce costs and improve delivery times. Maintain strong working relationships with equipment dealers, OEMs, vendors, and local suppliers. Monitor backordered items and proactively communicate expected delivery dates to maintenance personnel. Expedite urgent or critical parts required to minimize equipment downtime. Review invoices against purchase orders and packing slips to ensure pricing and quantities are accurate.
Inventory & Warehouse Management
Maintain accurate inventory of maintenance parts and supplies using the company's inventory management system. Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments for accuracy and quality. Organize warehouse inventory to ensure efficient storage and retrieval. Label, catalogue, and track all inventory items. Perform routine cycle counts and annual physical inventories. Monitor inventory levels and establish minimum and maximum stocking levels. Identify obsolete, damaged, or excess inventory and recommend appropriate disposition. Ensure all inventory transactions are entered accurately and promptly.
Parts Distribution
Issue parts and materials to mechanics, field technicians, and service personnel. Coordinate parts shipments to remote Alberta oil sands job sites. Prepare shipping documentation and coordinate freight arrangements. Maintain records of issued parts and inventory usage. Support emergency after-hours parts procurement when operationally required.
Vendor & Cost Management
Evaluate supplier performance regarding pricing, quality, and delivery. Assist with annual vendor reviews and preferred supplier programs. Monitor purchasing trends and recommend cost-saving opportunities. Support warranty claims with equipment manufacturers and suppliers. Track core returns and warranty recoveries.
Administrative Duties
Maintain organized purchasing and inventory records. Prepare inventory, purchasing, and usage reports. Assist with maintenance budgeting by monitoring inventory expenditures. Support equipment maintenance planning by ensuring required parts are available for scheduled repairs. Maintain accurate documentation for audits and financial reporting.
Health, Safety & Environmental
Follow all company health, safety, and environmental policies. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment. Ensure hazardous materials are stored and handled in accordance with applicable regulations. Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is considered an asset. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in purchasing, inventory control, or warehouse operations within heavy equipment, mining, construction, or industrial maintenance. Experience with heavy equipment parts and components is required. Familiarity with equipment from manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Hitachi, Volvo, or similar is considered an asset. Experience using ERP, CMMS, or inventory management software. Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
Knowledge & Skills
Strong knowledge of heavy equipment parts identification. Understanding of procurement and inventory management best practices. Ability to interpret equipment parts manuals and technical documentation. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word). Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong communication and customer service abilities. Ability to prioritize multiple requests in a fast-paced maintenance environment. High attention to detail and accuracy. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with maintenance and operations teams.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg). Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting. Ability to operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment (certification considered an asset). Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Travel to project sites may occasionally be required.
Working Conditions
Shop and warehouse environment supporting heavy equipment maintenance operations. Occasional travel to Alberta oil sands sites. Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and industrial environments. May require occasional overtime or flexible hours to support operational requirements.

Kichton Contracting Ltd (KCL) has been in business since 1963 and is based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. KCL is classified as a medium sized civil earthworks contractor.
