Estimator – ICI Construction Location: GTA, Ontario Salary: $80,000–$90,000 per year, depending on experience About The Opportunity A well-established construction organization is seeking an Estimator to join its estimating team. This is a confidential opportunity with a respected General Contractor delivering a diverse range of commercial, institutional, industrial, retail and interior construction projects across the GTA. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing competitive and accurate construction estimates from initial review through tender closing. This will include quantity takeoffs, subcontractor and supplier pricing, scope analysis, bid levelling, budgeting and preparation of complete tender submissions. This role is suited to an estimator who has developed a strong understanding of ICI construction and is comfortable independently managing assigned estimates while working closely with senior estimators, project managers, subcontractors and suppliers. Responsibilities Prepare detailed construction estimates for commercial, institutional, industrial, retail and interior projects Review architectural, structural and MEP drawings, specifications and tender documents to determine complete project scope Complete detailed quantity takeoffs across multiple construction divisions Prepare conceptual, budgetary and detailed estimates at various stages of design development Solicit pricing from subcontractors, suppliers and vendors for assigned projects Develop appropriate subcontractor bid lists and ensure adequate trade coverage for tender submissions Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations for completeness, accuracy and compliance with tender requirements Complete detailed bid levelling and scope comparisons Identify exclusions, qualifications, overlaps, scope gaps and potential pricing risks Prepare internal pricing sheets, estimate summaries and tender breakdowns Develop labour, material, equipment and subcontractor pricing where required Review historical pricing, market conditions and current trade pricing to validate estimate assumptions Prepare tender packages and issue RFQs to subcontractors and suppliers Coordinate and respond to subcontractor questions throughout the tender period Review addenda, bulletins and tender revisions and incorporate changes into the estimate Prepare and issue RFIs where clarification is required Participate in site visits and pre-bid meetings to assess existing conditions and project requirements Assist with constructability reviews and identify potential cost-saving or value-engineering opportunities Participate in estimate review and tender closing meetings Finalize tender submissions, bid forms and supporting documentation prior to closing Maintain accurate estimating files, tender documentation and pricing records Track subcontractor and supplier pricing and maintain relationships with the trade market Support project handover meetings following successful tender awards Provide estimating input to project teams during procurement and early project execution where required Qualifications Previous experience working as an Estimator within the construction industry Approximately 3+ years of estimating experience preferred Experience working with a General Contractor within the ICI construction sector is strongly preferred Experience estimating commercial, institutional, industrial, retail or interior construction projects Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and MEP drawings and specifications Hands-on experience completing quantity takeoffs Experience obtaining and analyzing subcontractor and supplier pricing Strong understanding of bid levelling, scope review and tendering processes Ability to identify scope gaps, exclusions, qualifications and potential cost risks Understanding of construction methods, materials, sequencing and trade scopes Strong mathematical and analytical skills Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates and tender deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication skills Construction Management, Engineering, Architectural Technology or related educational background considered an asset Software & Technical Skills Experience with some of the following would be considered an asset: Bluebeam Revu On-Screen Takeoff BuildingConnected Procore Microsoft Excel Microsoft Project AutoCAD and/or Revit Other estimating and construction management software Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and commercially aware ICI Estimator who is comfortable taking an estimate from tender documents through final submission. They should be confident completing quantity takeoffs, obtaining trade pricing, analyzing subcontractor quotations, identifying scope issues and preparing accurate and competitive estimates. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of construction drawings, trade scopes and tendering procedures and will be capable of managing multiple bids while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
